Sandbox

The term sandbox has numerous meanings in the computer terminology. Basically, the real meaning of "sandbox" describes an area within a software environment, in which programs can let off steam, without causing any danger to the existing system. In Second Life, sandbox is for example a test platform. You can compare the sandbox with a practice field on a golf course. Here, the beginners can learn techniques, without spoiling the game of the professionals. In connection with the search engine Google, since the beginning of 2004 is voiced the suspicion that Google has installed a filter, which leads thereto, that new domains remain for some time in a sandbox, before being considered serious enough to participate in the ranking of the search engine. Google denied this form of discrimination against new providers.
