Metatags are those texts, which are in the headline of a website and they contain the most important keywords. These texts are invisible for the user. They are there only for the robots of search engines, to get a good ranking, with the keywords, in the results pages of the search engines. Metatag generators are tools, with which we can produce these Metatags. On the internet, there are a number of services, such as generators, unfortunately, they are pretty old. Robots work now in another way, too. They don't set that much value on Metatags but the whole page. The use of Metatags only makes sense if there is only a little text on the page, but many images and/or frames. Because only then will the Metatags in the HTML format of the robots be considered and evaluated accordingly.
