Inktomi

Inktomi, operator of one of the largest search engine database in the world, was founded in 2003 by Yahoo! Bought up. He is still one of the largest operators for search services on the Internet. The company emerged from a project at the University of Berkley in 1996, invented by the American professor Eric Brewer. A dedicated search engine is not operated by Inktomi. Other search engines rely on the data from Inktomi. The company has a special status among the search engines. Search technologies are offered, but without having to own search portal. The search engines MSN and Overture, for example provide data by Inktomi. With the purchase of the company, as is commonly assumed, Yahoo! wanted to build a special search services. It should especially be a rival bid to Google's Shop Search Froogle©, where people should be able to search for products and services in the web.
