IP Cloaking

Another term for this kind of attempt to outsmart the search engines is: IP Delivery. Under the name of a web address two different pages will be shown. One version is for the robot of the search engine, this is optimized with HTML-code. The robot spiders this page and takes it into the index. The user, who uses a server, provides a second version, a neatly designed web page with graphics. The prerequisite for this kind of manipulation is the identification of the visitor. Based on the IP address, it will be assessed if it is a robot or a server. The cloaking remains hidden for the user. It might also happen that these two versions of the page contents do not match. If these spider specific websites are identified as cloaking, they are usually defined as a spam attempt and thus included in the blacklist of the search engine.
