Cloaking is a method in which the webmaster presents his website differently to the robots of the search engines than to the visitors. False contents are given, so that the site gets a better ranking and a better position in the search results of the search engines and this way the site gets more visitors, too. A cloaking-site is usually a pure text-page. This will be indexed by the robots and it will get a page rank. Cloaking is valued by search engines as a violation against the guidelines and will be avenged as spam. Nowadays it is recognized more often by search engines. This can lead to a worse page rank or to a complete deletion from the index of the search engine. A more complex and catchier version is the IP-cloaking. Here, the browser gets other contents of the IP-address. This model isn’t used that often, because a search engine must know about every IP-address.
